Louise Amstrup

It's been a little while since my last post but don't worry, I'm still alive! I spent the day on a boat yesterday which was really lovely (minus the fact that we broke down half way through the trip). The weather made up for it though - how nice has this sun been recently!?. I'm back to school tomorrow which is a bit weird since study leave feels like its lasted forever. I'm into the routine of getting up late in the morning and going to bed late at night so it's going to be a bit of a shock next week (I only have 2 lessons on Monday though, so not exactly a hard start to A2!).

 The designer I have chosen to show you today is Louise Amstrup. She is originally from Germany but now lives in London having worked for designers such as Jonathan Saunders and Alexander McQueen. Her collections are all quite simple but every piece is individual in it's design. I personally really like the colours that she uses in her designs and the different prints that she includes.

On Top of the World

I went out to see Imagine Dragons last night in London with a few friends. It was incredible! The atmosphere was really great and the band were amazing (just as good live as in their songs, if not better)! It's got me really excited to go and see Two Door Cinema Club in a couple of weeks time and I'm hoping they'll be just as good! 

In other news, has anyone been watching the Great British Sewing Bee? It's so rare for there to be a TV programme solely about sewing (I guess it's not a common hobby) so I've got my Tuesday evening sorted for a few weeks. Although it probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people, it's actually very interesting and I've learn't a few new things while watching it, so I highly recommend it!

So this is a very simple outfit today. The shirt was a birthday present. It's a really lovely sheer material so is great for spring/summer and looks great paired with a skirt. The skirt was given to me by someone who no longer wanted it. It's great since I've wanted an a-line skirt like this for a while so getting it for free is a bonus! The shoes are from Office and I bought them last summer for my Prom. I haven't really shown them much on my blog yet since they're quite summery and I am currently addicted to my silver heels but I will probably be using them a bit more now the weather is warming up. They actually never used to have the white material on them and were plain but I customised them and added this on.

Pearls

You're probably really fed up of me talking about the weather, but I have to mention the fact that it's actually starting to get warmer. I quote from the Met Office 'There remain signs of a transition from the current colder than average conditions to more typical conditions for the time of year taking place during mid-April'. This and the fact that it's Easter has put me in a good mood for the past few days and there's lots to look forward to - I'm currently counting down the days until I go and see Imagine Dragons in concert (check them out if you don't already know them, see here).

Enough of my ramblings and onto my outfit. This has to be one of my favourite shirts. I bought it around about this time last year from a vintage fair. I just love the print so much and the style of it. I bought the skirt from Topshop recently with some of my birthday money. I'd been eyeing it up for a while so I was quick to buy it when I had the chance. The problem with being able to make my own clothes is that I can never justify buying anything remotely expensive. If I see something I like, I'll ask myself whether I could easily make it and if not then it's not worth the money (I'll usually end up searching on eBay for something cheaper!). This skirt, however, is unusual in the way that it has different levels and sections to it. It's a bit similar to the panel skirt I made ages ago (here). I'm also a huge fan of the zips on this skirt. I hate sewing zips so I'd say it was justified.

Purple

First of all, look at my fancy reflection skills! I keep seeing this everywhere so I thought I'd try it out myself. Onto the actual outfit...I made this dress on Saturday afternoon. This is actually the first thing I've properly made from scratch (apart from my Textiles final) since Christmas. I'm the biggest procrastinator ever so rather than wasting time attempting but not actually doing work, I decided this dress would be a better use of my time. After I made it, I actually felt an increased motivation to work harder for my schoolwork. Perhaps I've discovered the key to preventing procrastination: do something you've been wanting to do for a while and then focus on your work afterwards - it works, trust me!.

So, I  made the dress using some fabric I got as a present for my birthday. The print is so lovely and I really like how it contrasts with the sleeves (which were made from some white curtain netting). I'm actually really pleased with the dress (unusual for me). It reminds me of the ones you can get from Yayer or Choies (but instead I saved about £40 of my money by making it myself).

I'm devastated that Google Reader is shutting down and although there seems to be a bit of confusion over Google Friend Connect, I'm sure that won't be staying much longer either. I'm determined to continue using Google Reader until the very last day (July 1st) but after that I'll probably have to transfer over to Bloglovin. I'm wearing a dress that was a birthday present (originally from Yayer). I've wanted a dress with shoulder cut outs for a while so I was excited to receive this dress. It's also very handy having a monochrome checkered dress (I don't think I've ever owned one) and it could be very useful to wear in the summer. I don't think I've shown you these boots yet, even though I've had them since before Christmas. They were from New Look for around about £20 and have gold stud-like things down the side (which you can't tell from these photos). The necklaces include my usual pearl and chain necklace and the red and blue necklace (a Christmas present). My bracelet was a birthday present from one of my friends.
