1 year of blogging

It's my 1 year blog birthday! I really can't believe I've actually kept this blog up for so long. I was sorting through all of the blogs I was following the other day (there were a lot) and found that more than half of them were no longer running, so it makes me feel quite proud to have lasted this long. The weird thing is that I can't even remember why I started in the first place and I definitely never realised that blogging would become so addictive! It's also really nice knowing that so many people are interested in what I post and take the time to write such lovely comments. I decided to do a typical 1 year post with my best outfits from the last 12 months. It's more of a reference for me and a chance to reminisce over my blogging experience but let me know which were your favourite outfits...

Knit

These photos didn't come out the best unfortunately due to the bad lighting. It's annoying how early it's getting dark at the moment. I really have to rush to take photos as soon as I get back from sixth form, though I guess I could try and organise myself a bit better with weekend photos (which reminds me, I'll have a gatsby-ish outfit coming up soon). Anyway, the shirt is something which I have shown here already. It's a great piece to mix and match with but is obviously a lot more appropriate for the warmer months. I've been making a fair amount of use out of my Topshop skirt (I saw it in the sale though for something like £10 the other day - a lot cheaper than what I paid). The cardigan is something I found on ebay over a year ago (around the £3/£4 mark). It's a lot more worn out now unfortunately and the sleeves are covered in oil paint but it's still useful to cover up and keep warm.

How was your weekend? What have you been wearing in Autumn?

P.S. If you're interested, I've added some new items to my shop

More textiles work...

This is another piece that I have been working on in my textiles project. This like the previous is supposed to be a large sample working on developing techniques I have used in my sketchbook. I decided to separate it up into panels and create a skirt. Again, it can be unfinished and doesn't have to be neat and the focus is more on the actual samples. I prefer the corset piece I made as the samples were more refined (a word that my teachers have engraved in my mind...we're constantly told to refine things) and I put more time and effort into making it but as promised here is my second piece.

I used a mola technique for the green holly shapes and appliqued on the black pieces. I also printed on circles to the surface.

A very simple one using red and black paint.

I used a leather type fabric and draw onto this using white pastel which gives a really interesting effect when smudged on the material. I then stitched over this.

I stitched two pieces of yarn together to create the swirls, which also transferred the pink material onto the cotton. I painted and drew on the green background and black swirls.

Very simply stitched yarn onto a clear material and then spray painted gold onto certain sections.

Made using rolled up lengths of fabric and drawn with pen.
